Much thanks to everyone for the very kind words.

John: Interesting observations re the switch to a Russian matchmaker. Could be. Also, while L'Amour and Parade appear to be set in little French-speaking monarchies, Galaxia seems more like Brighton Beach, not all that far from where we lived at that time. Monday's post will have a few appended examples of the others.

"Galaxia" is actually a pretty good cartoon from the time period, and really the final cartoon in the matchmaker trilogy Irv did a Paramount with "L'amour the Merrier" and "La Petite Parade" (I would guess the sale of the pre-1960s cartoons to Harvey and/or the more naked scheming for money of Boris compared to M. Renoir were the reasons the main character was changed from French to Russian). The limited animation does hurt the impact of the gags, but there's nothing wrong with the script.

One of the smartest things Famous Studios did in the 1950s was to move Spector into the story department. Many of the best cartoons -- and most of the more adult-oriented stores (as opposed to the Casper/Huey/Audrey stuff) -- were done by Irv between 1953 and 1962.
