“Twitterpated” Owls

- With the Frank Thoomas/Ollie Johnston book, Bambi: the Story and the Film, an elaborate flipbook came as an extra added attraction. This owl sequence, animated by Eric Larsen, was part of that flipbook. I’ve exposed it on “two’s” for the QT movie at the bottom.

This is the centerpiece for the “twitterpated” sequence which I wrote about in a post last week. It’s quite clever animation; it just feels like it belongs in another film.

    Michael,
Why do you state “it just feels like it belongs in another film”. I’m just a fan and am curious as to what you see that I don’t. Thanks.

It is a bit cartoony for such a “realistic” film like Bambi, but it does more-or-less fit. What other way could they have explained being “twitterpated” without it being just a dialogue scene between the characters? Besides, I think Friend Owl’s performance was not only entertaining, but appropriately placed. It falls right smack between the death of the mother & the whole “Looking for Romance” sequence, which I believe are the most “mature” (lack of a better word) parts of the film. At this point, there has to be a little comedy, even if it is a bit cartoony. The kids need a break from all the heart-wrenching & lovey-dovey stuff.

& by the way, is it just me or do you think “twitterpated” should be officially entered into the Dictionary. Just wondering…

Absolutely it should be in the dictionary! Why not?

Hi, I cant believe a number of of the web sites I have been taken to from stumblupon. I was trying to pass a couple of dull 60 minutes away, when stumbleupon brought me here. What a extraordinary page you possess I’m so delighted to have discovered it I have just passed the previous 20 mins running through several of your articles and reviews, and have also bookmarked some of them. I will defiantly be back to learn a tiny bit more when i have alittle more time.
