Tytla’s Stromboli – 4

- This is Part 4 of this large scene by Bill Tytla of Stromboli.

Part 1 saw a frenetic anger from Stromboli; Part 2 he caught himself to get a hold on his emotions. Part 3 he slowed down and prepared for the kiss (a break) and the bow upcoming in this, Part 4. Much of this part is on twos, as opposed to part 3 all on ones.

This is animation tour de force and there’s one part left to go next week.

This is great stuff, but I want to point out a glitch. The first drawing of the latest set is held for 4 frames in the quicktime. That kills the flow of the motion and I assume that it’s a technical error and not how Tytla exposed the drawings originally.

Sorry, Mark, the glitch was not in the construction of the PT. IT was in the positioning of the drawings (which I’ve corrected.) #142 was positioned where a #132 would have been if it was in my scene. If I was missing a drawing I would expose it for as many frames as missing. Eg. #136-2x, #138-2x, #140-2x and #130-4x, #132-2x etc. I have no X-sheets so have to go on the number of each drawing.

It’s been fun watching this all come together.

On a side note, I was wondering if you could recommend any sites which sell animation art that you know to be legit and safe? I’d like to start collecting some pieces of favorite characters and such but I’m not sure where to look.

Thanks for taking the time to post this. It’s great to be able to frame by frame stuff like this.

Jose, there is Van Eaton Galleries.

This is beautiful stuff, thanks for sharing. I watched Pinocchio again the other night with my five year old daughter and the human characters have a wonderful fleshiness to them (as is particularly evident here with Stromboli) which contrasts nicely with Pinocchio himself who is wooden.
