Mickey’s Orphans Grabs
- Having posted some story sketches from Mickey’s Orphans, I feel bound to post frame grabs from the finished film, for comparison. Thanks to Hans Perk‘s post of the animator draft on his blog AFilmLA, I’m also able to identify each scene’s animators.
Starting to get into the Christmas spirit with this odd little film.

Let’s look at the wacky size relationships.
A human leaves a kitten at the doorstep.
The human is the same size as Mickey MOUSE.

The kittens are tiny in comparison to the mice, Mickey & Minnie.
The dog, Pluto, is also smaller than Mickey and Minnie.

On the size relationships, you bring up an interesting point.
Only in a cartoon would or could something like that concept be fleshed out so effortlessly. While literature and probably folklore and fables have precedents, and probably established precedent, cartoons just run with the wacky concept that a mouse-like creature can be as big as a dog or a cat. And, we can accept it without thinking too much.
Yet another reason to love cartoons and making them.

Going by the black arms and white gloves on the “human” character, wouldn’t that be the mother cat? Mrs. Pete perhaps.

Good catch tan v. I think you’re right about the mother cat and it looks like she may even be bigger than Mickey.
