Baumgarten’s “Teddy und Kasperle”

- As you know by now, I am a fan of Fritz Baumgarten‘s illusration work.
Bill Peckmann couldn’t please me more than by sending more scans of Mr. Baumgarten’s work. And it seems as though Bill has a large collection of his books. Here’s another one, Teddy und Kasperle. Teddy appears in quite a few of Mr. Baumgarten’s books, and he’s an entertaining character.

Panel Six is a good one because while the title and the bear’s design says “stuffed toy” it is definitely quite different than the animals, the very tiny animals.

Look at the size differences between the chicken in No. 4 and the crow in No. 14.

Somehow all of the various sizes, not all proportional to what you’d expect, work really well. That’s a heck of a trick to pull off.

    Pretty stuff, as usual.

I wish my German were much better though. I’m missing out on the details.

Reminds me of the charm of “Megan of Mole Country”.

Ah, those cute moles. They were probably more attractive than these guys. But there is a teddy bear in this book. Maybe Megan should have had a teddy?
